Delhi Boosts Green Mobility with 150 Electric Buses, New EV Charging Stations and 13 Air Quality Monitors

Date:

Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta reviewed air pollution control measures at Anand Vihar, one of Delhi’s major pollution hotspots, on September 13.

During the visit, they inaugurated 13 new air quality monitoring stations in the delhi, virtually launched public EV charging facilities at five locations, and flagged off 150 electric buses to promote cleaner public transport.

The 13 ‘Continuous Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Stations’ (CAAQMS) installed by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) will provide real-time data on air quality and weather conditions to assess pollution, enforce regulations and inform the public about the Air Quality Index (AQI). With these addition, Delhi’s air quality monitoring network has expanded from 47 to 60 stations. This data will be accessible via the Central Pollution Control Board’s server and the SAMEER mobile app.

During the inspection at Anand Vihar, the ministers reviewed measures to tackle pollution from traffic congestion, road dust, construction activities and improper waste disposal.

Yadav said 11 agencies had been tasked with implementing short- and long-term measures, including road paving, removal of encroachments and illegally dumped construction waste, dust-control initiatives and greening activities. He said that the coordinated efforts of various departments of the Delhi government have helped control pollution at the hotspots.

The delegation also visited the DPCC’s AI-enabled Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC) at Shastri Park. The centre integrates data on air quality, industrial emissions, dust-control activities, citizen grievances and enforcement operations to support real-time monitoring and coordinated action. Out of the 15 external data systems planned for integration, nine have already been connected, while the remaining six are being integrated in phases.

The aim of these initiatives is to strengthen air quality monitoring in Delhi, improve the enforcement of anti-pollution regulations, and expand clean public transport.
