The meeting took place on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group.

According to the Ministry of Finance, the discussions covered the successful conclusion of the fourth India-UK Financial Markets Dialogue, fintech meetings and related India-UK Financial Partnership engagements.

The talks built on the outcomes of the previous Economic and Financial Dialogue (EFD) between the two countries.

Both sides reviewed ongoing cooperation and explored ways to strengthen financial-sector engagement.

During the meeting, Sitharaman conveyed India’s interest in the upcoming 14th Economic and Financial Dialogue.

Proposed areas of collaboration include:

  • Critical minerals
  • Green technology
  • City-region partnerships

Both sides confirmed that the next EFD would take place in December 2026, providing another opportunity to discuss economic priorities and potential areas of cooperation.

Sitharaman reaffirmed India’s commitment to working closely with the United Kingdom on shared priorities.

She also emphasised the importance of a constructive and inclusive G20 process.

The discussions reflect ongoing engagement between the two countries on financial cooperation and emerging economic and technological sectors.

The Finance Minister is visiting Bangkok from October 14 to 18 to participate in the annual meetings of the IMF and the World Bank Group.

Her programme also includes engagements involving G20 and G7 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors.
